ashl-young-756455Aston Villa’s game against Everton could be a defining moment in their season. They have dropped some crucial points against inferior teams and most critics agree they have underperformed thus far. However, when a team does have a moment of change, it is usually sparked by a certain decision by the manager, or most likely, the sudden impact of a particular player. Step forward Ashley Young.

His game against Everton was inspired. Young scored two beautiful goals that illustrated his pure natural talent. The composure he maintained when threading the ball past Tim Howard was impressive. His second half goal that came from an almighty gaff from Phil Jagielka was pleasing on the eye too. It’s great to watch a young England player doing so well.

Aston Villa have the ability to break into a Champions League spot. They have so many talented players. Gareth Barry, Gabriel Agbonlahor, James Milner and Steve Sidwell all played well this weekend. Sidwell scored a screamer himself after only 34 seconds! But the performance from Ashley Young garners him the player of the week…

  • Two Thoughts of the Day

Arsenal qualify for the Champions League again and Tottenham don't! Spurs fans must be feeling sick this morning. They were the better team this season, but they definitely weren't the better team in the last 8 or 9 games. Once again, they had a lead over Arsenal and blew it. With that said, they did seem mentally stronger under Andre Villas Boas. Tactically he may have made a couple of mistakes in midfield and up front. And AVB will never admit he should have bought that striker in January. Regardless of the positives, the bottom line is they fell short against their nemesis. Wenger finds a way to go on a run at the end of the season and he did it again this year. It was generally woeful from Arsenal but somehow, some way, they found a way to win and qualify for Europe's biggest prize. Let's hope for Arsenal fans Wenger and the board don't utilize this as an excuse to say the squad is good enough and that they only need a "couple" of players in the summer transfer market!

Twas the season where everyone retired. Makes me feel nostalgic. Sir Alex Ferguson, Paul Scholes, Jamie Carragher, Michael Owen and David Beckham, thank you for the great football memories. Thank you for your contribution to the beautiful game.
